Welcome to Florida's Wildland Fire Risk Assessment System (FRAS) Welcome to the Florida Division of Forestry's Wildland Fire Risk Assessment System(FRAS) Internet Mapping Tool. The Division is one of the first in the nation to offer an internet-based mapping tool that allows the general public to access information concerning the potential risk from wildland fire. You can link directly to the WEB-FRAS application and view the maps by clicking on the link below. You can also view information concerning the stand alone computer application in the FRAS Background Information section. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via email. There are TWO versions of FRAS, the web version, where the user can access the information directly on the Internet, however the WEB-FRAS does not allow the user to manipulate the data. The second version is the "stand alone" computer application called FRAS. This application requires the use of ESRI's ARCVIEW 3.x, and the Spatial Analyst Extention. It also allows the user to make chages to the data, e.g., fuels reduction, or fire prevention efforts. After the change is made to the base layers, the user can project the new "Levels of Concern" that result from this effort. WEB-FRAS
FRAS Back Ground Information This section deals with the FRAS computer application. The application can be downloaded over the web with or without the tutorial data (contact us via email for more information on downloading the application). There are three required software packages necessary to run the application. They are:
We are offering the following links for those that are interested in how the Wildland Fire Risk Assessment Project was planned, and implemented. The FRAS application is a powerful tool that can assist emergency managers, planners, government officials and others in becoming familiar with wildland fire areas of concern that they should be aware of, and what mitigation application could best serve them when addressing these challenges.
